Level II Adult Cardiac Catheterization designation from the Ohio Department of Health — the capability to perform interventional cardiology procedures such as stenting, not just diagnostic ones. In many cases, a stent placed here can eliminate the need for open-heart surgery.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a STEMI and how is it treated at FCHC?
A STEMI stands for “ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction”. It is a life threatening type of heart attack caused by a complete or near complete blockage of one or more arteries that supply blood flow to the heart muscle.
At FCHC, it is treated in the cath lab, by restoring blood flow to the heart muscle using angioplasty and stenting.
How long does a diagnostic cardiac cath procedure take?
The procedure takes approximately 30 minutes.
What if the doctor finds a narrowing or blockage in my artery?
The doctor can perform angioplasty (inflate a balloon to open the artery) and place a stent to keep the artery open, during the procedure without any delay or rescheduling.
What is the recovery expectation after a cardiac cath? Will I stay overnight?
You will be monitored for a few hours after the procedure. If the cath insertion site was through your wrist, you can usually walk around sooner and have fewer restrictions. If the cath was through your groin, you will need to lay flat for a few hours.
Most people go home the same day if the procedure was scheduled as an outpatient.
Will I be awake for the procedure?
You will receive medication to help you relax and reduce discomfort, while allowing you to be able to respond to instructions or ask questions.
